Open the Visual Basic for Applications editor in Excel

This super quick tip shows you how to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor in Excel.

Overall, the VBA editor allows you to do some amazing stuff with code. Again, we just show you how to open the editor here. However, we will go more in depth with VBA in a later lesson.


With this is mind, for this lesson, we suggest you use Excel 2007 or higher or compatible.


Steps to open the Visual Basic for Applications editor in Excel

Follow the steps below to open the VBA editor in Excel.

Steps 1 and 2 - Open VBA editor

  1. From the menu bar, click Developer.
    Note: If you do not see the Developer option, then check out our quick tip below on showing the Developer ribbon.
  2. Under the Code group, select Visual Basic.

The VBA editor shows.
